Academic Excellence

If your student is attending UNC Charlotte…

He or she will be a big part of the university’s constant evolution. Just like any great school, our fine reputation is based in large part on the success of our students.

It’s our commitment and pleasure to support your student on his or her journey here. We can assure you that their program will be intellectually challenging. If they rise to the challenge, their years at UNC Charlotte will provide them with a door-opening education, and lay the foundation for a solid, exciting future.

As you prepare to send your student to university, it’s important that you make time to discuss what will be expected of them during their time here. UNC Charlotte’s academic programs are rigorous and demanding, and the new workload levels can be overwhelming for first-time students. It’s also important for your student to branch out and become involved in activities or organizations outside of their studies. Participation in outside activities will help your student learn to balance life’s many demands, and build friendships that will last a lifetime.

UNC Charlotte is committed to supporting the academic efforts of each of its students and as a parent, we want you to know that the University will help your student adjust to a college workload and lifestyle as much as possible. Each student at UNC Charlotte is assigned an academic advisor or advisory committee. In helping students achieve their educational and career goals, advisors will focus on enhancing the students’ transition from high school. If your child does not select a major upon enrolling, his or her advisor will also play a major role in guiding your student into a major that meets his or her needs.

All baccalaureate degrees require completion of a minimum of 120 semester hours of credit, including all requirements for a major field of study. Specific requirements for degrees and programs and more information about academics at UNC Charlotte can be found in the University Catalog.
