Summer Before Junior Year

  • Practice taking the SAT and/or ACT before your official test date. You can find SAT practice tests at khanacademy.org and the ACT at act.org.
  • TIP: Make the summer count! Give back to your community and explore engagement options to make your college application stand out.

Fall of Junior Year

    • Begin to build connections with faculty and staff at your high school, and people in your community, so that you have relationships established when you need to request letters of recommendation.
    • Explore college majors and career paths. You may be surprised by the variety of majors that will prepare you for an ideal job. View our academic programs.
    • Consider registering to take the SAT or ACT and ask your counselor if you are eligible for a test registration fee waiver. If you register for the test, request that your scores be sent to Charlotte, using SAT code 5105 and ACT code 3163.
    • Attend college fairs or admissions events in your area. Have some questions prepared before you attend.

    Spring of Junior Year

    •  Attend Open House to explore campus, academic programs and student life at Charlotte.
    • Review college admissions requirements and plan your senior course schedule carefully. Consider enrolling in honors, AP, or dual enrollment courses but be careful not to overload!
    • TIP: Check with your counselor if honors or AP or dual enrollment courses are a good fit for you. Success in these courses is a good indicator of your future success in college. Pursuing rigorous courses will also show your initiative on your application to Charlotte.
