What’s the Real Talk Series all about?

  • Real Talk is a virtual series designed to help you get familiar with campus and engage with faculty and staff across many campus departments.
  • These sessions will cover topics ranging from financial literacy to navigating your first year at UNC Charlotte.

Registration

  • Registration is required and limited to the first 500 participants.
  • You will receive a confirmation email within 2 business days of registering for the event.
  • All participants will receive a reminder email closer to the event with additional details.

JUNE: TUESDAY TALKS

  • June 1 | 6:00pm | College 101: Navigating your first year at UNC Charlotte: Tune in to hear from our University Career Center about ways to get the most out of your first year at UNC Charlotte!
  • June 8 | 6:00pm | First Gen Niners: Transition Tips: Are you one of the first in your family to attend a 4-year university? As a first-generation college student, you have the unique experience of navigating the college transition process on your own. During this session we welcome you to speak with our First-Gen Niners club to hear about their stories, support services, and how they gained confidence in being one of the first in their family to go to college!
  • June 15 | 6:00pm | Mental Health in a Virtual World: Sign up to hear from our Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) office to learn more about resources for Black & Brown students, support measures in place for digital learning, and time to ask questions about how you can maximize your mental health journey before you get to campus!
  • June 22 | 6:00pm | UCAE: College Classroom Do’s and Don’ts: Interested to know what to expect on your first day of classes? Tune in to hear from our University Center for Academic Excellence (UCAE) to discuss classroom etiquette, how to advocate for yourself, connecting with your professors, and getting to know your classmates!
  • June 29 | 6:00pm | On-Campus Jobs & Networking in the Queen City: Are you ready to find a job on campus but don’t know where to start? Our University Career Center is excited to connect you with on-campus employment opportunities, and highlight the ways to get connected with the greater Charlotte community!

JULY: FINANCIALLY FIT THURSDAYS

  • July 1 | 6:00pm | Principles of Financial Literacy: Tune in to learn more about the importance of financial well-being! Financial Literacy is not just about managing your money, it dives deep to help you question your attitudes and values toward money and guides you to reach a life full of financial security and freedom.
  • July 8 | 6:00pm | Student Loans + Debt Management: Student loans have quickly become the primary source of funding for higher education. This workshop is designed to equip attendees with knowledge of what student loans are, how they work, and how to be smart about borrowing loans!
  • July 15 | 6:00pm | Goal Planning: Creating a set of financial goals is a critical component of planning for financial security. This workshop simplifies the process of setting up SMART financial goals, discusses ways to commit to and achieve your personal financial goals, and helps you create a roadmap to success that will ultimately lead to higher levels of financial security, freedom, and literacy.
  • July 22 | 6:00pm | Saving & Investing: In this Green to Gold session, we will discuss basic concepts of asset accumulation and protection. This session is intended to arm you with the basic concepts and knowledge you need to make more informed saving and investing decisions.
  • July 29 | 6:00pm | 49 Quick Tips for Students: This session is a fun, fast-paced, and interactive exploration of 49 student-focused action steps to save money and establish sound financial habits. Upon completion of this session, students should be able to identify and take action on a number of financial resources, behaviors, and opportunities that will allow them to more successfully navigate money management and behavioral finance.
