Transfer Requirements

General Transfer Admission Requirements

  • Minimum 24 transferable semester hours from a college or university accredited by an accepted accrediting body. Students are encouraged to complete college coursework in English, Math, Science, Social Science, and History.
    • Applicants with less than 24 transferable credit hours may be reviewed on freshmen criteria and may be asked to send SAT or ACT scores.
  • Minimum 2.0 cumulative college GPA for all college-level courses.
  • Student must be in good standing and eligible to return to the last school attended.
  • Completion of the Minimum High School Course Requirements

Please Note

  • A 2.0 GPA does not guarantee admission; having a higher GPA makes you more competitive.
  • Some majors are more competitive and have additional requirements. View major-specific requirements here.
  • Transferable courses must be college-level, be taken at a regionally accredited college or university, and have a grade of C or higher.
  • Please utilize the Transfer Credit Advisor for a list of courses that have previously transferred from your institution. Course equivalency lists are not exhaustive for any school except North Carolina community colleges.

COVID-19 & Transfer Admissions Review

We understand that COVID-19 presented many unique challenges over the last few years.  Students are encouraged to include any pertinent information about academic performance impacted by the pandemic on the transfer application for our admissions team to review. We are committed to considering information provided by students during the application review process and are using a holistic approach to evaluating student performance.

Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Grades during COVID-19:

  • If you took transferable courses and earned a credit of "P" (Pass) or "S" (Satisfactory) , you will receive transfer credit at UNC Charlotte.
    • Please note that if you are transferring into a competitive major that requires a course prerequisite grade of “B” or better, the “P” (Pass) or “S” (Satisfactory) may not be sufficient for entry into the major.
  • If you took transferable courses and earned grade of “F” (Fail) or “U” (Unsatisfactory), you will not receive transfer credit at UNC Charlotte.
  • Please feel free to consult with an Admissions Counselor to discuss the grading option that benefits you most in the admissions process. Counselors may be reached at 704-687-5507.
