Proof of English Proficiency
All students whose first language is not English are asked to meet the English Proficiency requirement as part of the UNC Charlotte application. It is assigned regardless of your US immigration status.
- You are not required to demonstrate English proficiency if you apply for conditional admission to improve your English with English Language Training Institute prior to starting your bachelor’s degree classes.
- If you are a citizen of a country where English is an official language and at school English was your language of instruction , you are exempt from demonstrating English competency.

Earn 24 credit hours at a US university or community college | Grade of C or better in 6 hours of humanities or Grade of C or better in English Composition 1 & 2 (classes must be completed before applying). |
Degree from an accredited U.S. College | Transcript showing a transferable associate’s or bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited US institution. |
